Send in the Clowns

GMA has declared tomorrow, July 25, 2005 as a non-working holiday in Metro Manila. It is the day of her State of the Nation Address (SONA).

Never has a SONA been so anticipated and yet dreaded. The citizenry doesn't know what to expect from this potentially combustible day. The military and police are on red alert. The militants are ready to take to the streets. The opposition has announced a boycott.

But, prior to the SONA in the afternoon, the events on both chambers of Congress could be something to watch. In the Senate, there would probaba;y be an attempt to unseat Senate President Franklin Drilon because of his call for a GMA resignation. Miriam Defensor-Santiago may be posturing to take over. Oh my!

At the House, the oppostion will attempt to file the impeachment complaint against PGMA. If this is blocked, who knows what will happen.

It's like watching a reality TV show! Bit unlike other such shows, the cast of characters here are composed of detectives searching for evidence, street fighters, character actors, heart throbs, grandstanding lawmakers and lawyers, ass-licking cabinet members and local officials, former Presidents, etc.

Upon watching these events unfold these past few weeks, I have seen how the country has suffered and this made me realize that all of them can be bunched up into one category - CLOWNS!
