SONA or Later, She Really Has To Go!
Yesterday's State of the Nation Address (SONA) was said to be the shortest yet rowdiest ever. It was like watching a UAAP game but the difference was, there was only one team on the court. The Batasan Complex Session Hall was filled with GMA cheerleaders (Local Officials were all over the gallery).
GMA's speech was crafted in such a way to get a thunderous response from the audience because it was what they wanted to hear – Charter Change, Federalism, Parliamentary form of government. FVR who was in the audience may have been tickled pink upon hearing GMA accept all his recommendations when he trooped to Malacanang last July 8 to save the GMA administration from collapse. As commentaries have said, it was FVR's speech being read by his spokeswoman, GMA. Speaker JDV was also clapping wildly as GMA uttered every sentence that dealt with ChaCha. He looked like a character straight out of a comic book with his antics on the rostrum. I bet his hands are swollen now.
Senate President Drilon was very still and not a single applause came from him. He may hold his head up high because he stuck to his principles.
That speech of GMA further divided the nation. The Congress is now split in half. The Lower House wants ChaCha while the Upper Chamber refuses. The local government executives are now GMA's latest darlings while their constituents are clamoring for GMA to resign. The ChaCha issue has brought about another reason for the country to be divided. What kind of leadership is this? She has sacrificed the unity of the nation only to remain in office. She has disregarded the welfare of the Republic just to please her loyal supporters. She has sent the message to the Filipinos that she controls their local leaders so they should stop their noise.
Since the Church has declined its role to be the savior of the situation, all eyes are now on the military. The citizenry may be silently pinning their hopes on these idealistic men in uniform to once again save the country from the greed and lust for power of Mrs. Arroyo.
I feel in my gut that the time is fast approaching when a change will eventually take place. The impeachment has been filed and it's rejection by the majority may serve as a trigger to push the people into action. If the President thought that the idea of ChaCha would divert the attention from the Gloriagate and jueteng issues then she is wrong.
The people are waiting for the right time because they know that sooner or later, WE HAVE TO DO AWAY WITH GMA! ADIOS!
