The Business of Helping
I am about to join my third company. White Stone is the advertising company I put up with my former McCann colleagues and Activasia is the trade activation company I put up with my batchmates.

The third one is a bit different. My friends and I are about to plunge into the business of helping. We are putting up a company that will serve as a link between companies and non-government organizations (NGOs) - Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) or Corporate Citizenship is the term commonly used for these ventures. The company's main thrust is Cause Marketing.
The team is a good mix of people from the corporate world, from the advertising/marketing business and from the NGO sector. Based on our past discussions and meetings, we seem to complement each other very well. Three of us are batchmates and classmates from Prep to Grade 3 (such a long time ago). Two of us were classmates almost all our school lives, except for three years (Grades 4, 5 and 6).
Our task is to match companies with NGOs and create programs for them. It can be intiated by either of the parties. A company may be interested in fostering education, thus, we look for an NGO that focuses on education and we come up with a program that would be mutually beneficial to them. Same goes if an NGO is looking for a company to fund/sponsor its mission.
We will earn a little from this. Maybe just charge a small percentage for services rendered. Maybe the volume will see our company through. But, what is important is that we were able to help not only the host company and the NGO but most especially the people who will directly benefit from the program.
Maybe in midlife, we see the need of people other than ourselves and our immediate family. Maybe we see society as part of our responsibility. Maybe we wish to fill the emptiness inside us, the longing of the heart, the yearning to reach-out, the fulfillment of being of service, the true essence of our being.
A lot of maybes but, they surely make me feel good!

Thanks Minotte. Tentatively, the name is Advocacy Communicators Asia, Inc. (ADVOCOM ASIA, INC.). Yup, Rapa and his brother, Jim are with me on this. Another partner is Manny de Luna. He is my partner in Activasia and a former global marketing head of Unilever. He also came from Colgate and Coca-Cola. We hope to get the company registered with SEC in 2 weeks.
